I Have Learned…

During this documentary making, I learned many different things that will help in the future. I learned how important it is to work as a team and to make sure that you are always organized. Also, I now feel much more confident with video making. I can cut clips, edit clips, and create transitions much better. I have learned that the topic of global warming is a problem that we all must help out. It is sad reading that if we do not do anything, how many animals will be killed and become extinct. Therefore, everyone should do little things to help the planet.

My group has some work that needs to be done. I think that we have great interviews and clips on tape (visual metaphors, nature clips). Therefore, it is now the time to edit and do the voiceovers. I think that we have a lot of work that needs to be done with the editing and voiceovers. The things that we need for finishing the clip is a microphone for the voiceovers. My group is going to work on the documentary during class and during lab. I think that will be enough time but if we need more, then we can figure out a time later this week to stay after. If we stay after or do it during lab, I think my whole group must try to attend so that we can finish a documentary with a great message to share.

Prevention Group Topic Sentence: Global Warming affects us all and therefore each individual must become active in order for a global change to occur.

Documentary Thesis: Global Warming is a current issue which encompasses the entire world.

Street Interviews

I think my group got great information and points of view from the people we interviewed. We got 4 interviews. We had people who knew a lot about Global Warming and some who did not know as much. We had one person who does not believe in Global Warming which will be helpful to put in the documentary. My group should have been more prepared for a person who does not believe in Global Warming. Also, I was interested in to what the people said they do for the planet and what they think should be done to help. Also, many people said that we need to have the government more involved in this problem. One person said that schools should teach about Global Warming so that the children (next generation) can help the planet.

Documentary Set-Up (title and intro)

Here are some ideas for titles…

Intro…

In the intro we should have some music playing. Also, we need to have statistics on the introduction because statistics get people aware of how much the planet needs help. We should show a bunch of different pictures of what people can do and have the picture move really fast. Also, we can put in some short clips of the interviews that we have. Maybe the interviews could be the ones where people are saying “I don’t know!” so that shows the need to educate.

Reflection on Work in Class

Last class my group gathered ideas that we are going to use in the clip. We are going to interview the German teacher to get information about other countries. We are thinking about doing the clip into sections of different levels… worldwide, local, individual. We made some of the story board cards. On them we have the clip that we will show and later put the interview about Germany on it. We also made other cards with information about the canvas bags and recycling.

Tomorrow we are going to go interview the everyday people so we can start to edit the clips soon.

Metaphor Clips

2. Start recycling and saving the energy-show a stopwatch

3. Keep our planet “green”-show the color of grass changing due to the dry temperature

4. Think about changing your light-bulbs today-person with a spiral “thinking” light-bulb

5. Global Warming is melting our planet-show an ice cube melting outside on the sidewalk from the sun

I think #5 will show that melting is occurring quickly in the world. The ice cube is like the icebergs that are melting and killing the animals that live on or by them. Also, I think that #4 is creative to show how we should think about changing our lifestyles to help benefit the planet.

This article compares the different types of bags that are being used and which ones are better than others. Paper bags are a huge cause of Global Warming because of the number of trees that are being cut down. In plastic bags, the petroleum to create a bag is huge (14 bags is enough to drive a mile). The compostable plastic is better than other bags but it does take growing and transportation to create. Reusable PP bags is a great bag to help lower the price. The canvas bags are great for the planet but they are more expensive for a person to buy (and then use).

I believe that we all should buy a few canvas bags and use them for a while. They are the most helpful bags that are made for the Earth. I think people need to realize that it is worth the money to pay for these bags because it will help change the planet. At my house we use these canvas bags and they are easy to use and help slow Global Warming.

This video really makes you understand how much we are hurting and causing Global Warming. This video is very short but is gets the point out that we all need to stop and think about what we are doing. It shows that when we help the planet we really do. We can help by recycling, changing lightbulbs, and using less water.

I find that this video clip got straight to the point and showed it well. I now realize how little things that we do and do not thing about really can be easy to change and therefore help the planet. Also, it is interesting to me that they put in the numbers to show how much we are hurting our planet. Then its cool to see that when we do things to help like recycling the number truly does go down and therefore will help stop global warming.
